Poop problems!!!!
Let’s be honest for a minute, no one ever wants to talks about it. One of the very important components of a healthy lifestyle is proper digestion. Some people think that not pooping two days in a row is fine. Listen to me!!! It’s not. If the digestion is not on track, the body doesn’t absorb all the nutrients from the food you consume ( doesn’t matter how healthy you’re eating ). Flushing out all the waste from our body and eliminating all the extra hormones is done only, if you’re eliminating properly.
Ayurveda refers to all the toxins inside the body as Ama. If these toxins are not eliminated from the body on a daily basis then there will be a toxin build-up in your body over time. This buildup can, in turn, cause many underlying health issues.
I have always heard people saying that one should have breakfast like a king, but, to be honest, it never worked out for me. I am not hungry until 11 am, but the norms said so, I tried my best to follow. As I was told, it was the “right” way. I used to feel sluggish and heavy even after having a healthy bowl of breakfast, then I came across the concept of Ayurveda for digestion.
According to Ayurveda, our stomach is like a furnace and the process of digestion is like fire. This digestive fire is referred to as Agni in the Ayurveda world. The digestive fire aka Agni in the stomach is damp early morning. Consider a scenario where the fire in a furnace is damp. Rather than feeding it with a lot of wood at once one would try to make it stronger by putting little wooden pieces. Similarly, if we eat a lot of food in the morning, it is not easy for our digestive fire to process it efficiently because it is damp. This might result in the buildup of toxins later. Afterwards, I started having easily digestible food in the morning and my digestion came back on track within a few days. My current obsession is sweet stewed Apples. It is winter time here in Germany and stewed apples with spices like cinnamon and clove feel like a warm hug for your belly. I have included the steps in the recipe section here.

NOTE: Don’t get me wrong. I am not saying that I had a very light brekky every single day. All I am saying is that I started with something light to give my digestive fire some boost. If I felt hungry afterward, I totally went for that bowl of oats!! 🙂
I further discovered that the digestive fire in our body is the strongest from 12 noon to 1 PM, hence, lunch can be the heaviest meal for the day because our body is ready to digest complex food groups at this point.
NOTE: The yoga pose that has helped me for better digestion is vajrasana aka the thunderbolt pose. I practice this asana ( yoga pose ) religiously after every meal ( or at least I try to 😀 ).

So you may ask, how do I kick start my digestion? There are a few things that I start my day with. The first thing I do upon waking is, drinking lukewarm water with ginger. This quenches my morning thirst and I don’t feel like drinking tea or coffee as soon as I wake up because ginger gives it a wonderful flavor. If I am feeling a little extra, I add a tablespoon of honey as well, which makes it a little sweeter and curbs my sugar craving too.

Fun fact : 90% of the body’s serotonin ( Happiness hormone ) involved in mood management is produced in the gut.
So, healthy gut means happy you. 😀
PS : This is such a broad topic that each and every detail cannot be covered in one blog. More about digestion in upcoming blogs. 🙂
Step 1: Buy the apples ( Obvious but important step ) – any kind you like ( I buy Gala or Pink Lady apples ) :D.

Step 2: Peel the apples and dice 2 them into bite-size pieces ( or whatever size you like 😀 ).

Step 3: Put the apples in a small pan and fill it with just enough water to cover the apples.
Step 4: Add 3 cloves and a stick of cinnamon to make it a little spicy and hearty.

Step 5: Cover the pan and stew it for 5 minutes on low to medium heat.
Step 6: Your stewed apples are ready!!!! Sprinkle it with some love and enjoy!!! (Also, sharing is caring – so share it with loved ones ).
PS: You can either drink the leftover water just as is or add a little turmeric and a pinch of black pepper in it to make a turmeric tea!
PPS: I am insulin resistant!! So consuming just fruit can spike my insulin levels too much. To balance the sudden spike of insulin in my blood, I add seeds into my apples ( For more info on which seeds I add see seed cycling ).

PPPS: I know, it may not be aesthetically pleasing. But trust me, it is delicious and very gentle on the gut.
Fatigued?? irregular periods??? adult acne??? PCOS??? Hormonal imbalance?? If you have any one of those things, you’re at the right place sissy. 🙂
I have struggled with all of these problems for around 4 years now. It was so overwhelming to deal with all of it at once, so I feel ya. As soon as I was diagnosed with PCOS, I started researching a lot about it and found hundreds of different tips and tricks over the internet. I am still on my journey of learning about health and nutrition in general. I am sharing this one in particular because it helped me out in managing my fatigue, irregular periods and hormonal imbalance. I hope this post helps out girls/women out there, who are dealing with the similar kind of problems as I did. I don’t want any of you to be as confused as I was while starting my journey towards a healthy and holistic lifestyle.
Seed cycling is a way to consume different types of seeds throughout different phases of the menstrual cycle. There are mainly four types of seeds that are used in seed cycling, which include pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds.
I came across this term a year ago and thought, how can some seeds help me in balancing my hormones? What another way to know rather than trying it out for myself, I thought. This is when I discovered what seed cycling was and tried it out for a few months. I noticed how less fatigued I was after just a month of seed cycling. I got my period on time, my menstrual cramps were significantly reduced and my skin started to clear out too. I started realizing that my hormones are finally balancing because I started seeing the results. It also benefits women who are facing any kind of fertility issues (or so I have heard, I am not trying to conceive so can’t say for sure). Last but not least, it was so easy to incorporate in day to day life. It just takes 5 minutes, that’s how easy it is.
Start with Pumpkin seeds and ground Flax seeds (grinding them makes the nutrition absorption for the body easier) on the first day of your period. Take both of these for 15 days. After 15 days, switch to the sunflower seeds and ground sesame seeds until you get your period again. Repeat!!
That’s how simple it is. You can easily incorporate the seeds in your breakfast smoothies, oats or simply eat a handful. It is a completely safe and natural method to balance your hormones if they are out of whack. This is a very simple way of using food to balance your hormones. I will be sharing some breakfast recipes or how I incorporate seed cycling in my diet in my next blog posts.
There are two types of phases of our menstrual cycle. The first phase of the cycle is called Follicular and the latter phase is called Luteal phase. Flax seeds and pumpkin seeds naturally boost your estrogen level, which is what our body is trying to produce in the follicular phase of our cycle (first phase) to prepare for implantation. It also helps us in flushing out the extra estrogen in our body (if we have some). Both of the seeds help us in building the lining of the uterus. Sunflower and sesame seeds help in the Luteal phase (second phase) of our cycle. The hormone progesterone significantly drops in this phase and the uterus lining starts to shed. Sunflower and sesame seeds contain vitamin E and zinc which help in maintaining progesterone levels in our body resulting in a healthy period.
PS: I am not a professional nutritionist nor I am telling anyone, what to do and what not to do. I am just sharing my experience after adapting these changes, as these tips helped me with the problems I was facing.
I am sharing the experiences of my ongoing journey towards a healthy lifestyle, hoping that it helps all the other girls/women who are confused, like I was in the beginning…
Why write a blog, when you can keep a personal journal?
This is a question I have asked myself a multiple times before posting this blog publicly. The answer that I got from within was… maybe some girls are struggling or dealing with the same things I am.. maybe they are as confused as I was initially… if I post all the stuff I know.. it could help someone out there. There is a lot of information on the internet that can be misleading or contradicting. The more you read, the more clueless you get. Everything I post here is tried and tested by me. I am not a certified health practitioner, my blog consists of my experiences and things that I learn daily about health and nutrition in general.
I named my blog “My Veda”. You may ask why?
Veda is a Sanskrit word which means knowledge. This blog will contain all the knowledge that I have gathered throughout my journey (still gathering). I do not support any kind of crash diets. I promote a healthy lifestyle by building a healthy mind and body because usually, people tend to neglect one of these two. Understanding that mental well being is equally important as physical well being. I will share all the tips and tricks which are helping me in my daily life to maintain a balance between both of them.
I would love to connect with people who share the same thoughts as me. I would be very grateful even if one person is benefited from the information I post out there. This blog will be a combination of recipes, daily practices, workouts, traveling and little tips and tricks about everything I follow or anything that has helped me.
I would appreciate any kind of feedback that would further enhance the experience of people reading this blog.
PS : I am thankful, if you read until here. 🙂 XOXO
